For Furnaces & Condensing Units, Call North Town Mechanical
As the leading Chicago HVACspecialist, North Town Mechanical offers a wide variety of furnaces & condensing units from top brands like Carrier and Trane. A furnace provides heat to an interior space through the movement of an intermediary fluid. Air is used in most modern buildings, though steal or hot water may also be used in certain facilities. In the United States, natural gas is the most commonly used fuel for new furnaces, though liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is also sometimes used, as is fuel oil. Some legacy furnaces still use coal or wood, though these fuels are not common in newer designs. In areas where the cost of electricity is low and the climate is moderate, electrical resistance heating may be used as the main source of heat.
Though furnace designs may vary from one manufacturer to another, most furnaces comprise several key components, including burners, a heat exchanger, a draft inducer, and venting. The modern high-efficiency combustion furnaces that are typically used in residential buildings do not require a chimney because they achieve very high levels of efficiency; nevertheless, all combustion furnaces require some kind of venting to the outside to expel exhaust.
Condensing units contain a compressor, refrigerant, one or more pumps, various fans, and a system of tubing to manage the flow of the refrigerant. These units work by compressing a gaseous refrigerant and pumping the compressed gas through a system of coils. Through changes in temperature and pressure throughout the system of coils, the gaseous refrigerant undergoes two phase changes, from gas to liquid and then back to gas. During the phase change from liquid to gas, the refrigerant extracts heat from the air around it; this heat is needed to separate the molecules of the fluid from the liquid phase to the gas phase, which is a higher energy state. This is the basic concept behind air conditioning.
